Why is Education important?

Instruction ends in the school-room, but education ends only with life.

Without focusing on education, you will find that your career choices are limited. The best way to reach career success is to map out a strategy and set goals. You should focus on things that you like, including hobbies, talents, and interests and determine a career goal. Once you have an idea of what you would like to do, you will need to create a plan or strategy to reach those goals. Without the proper education, our kids will never accomplish their career goals.

The more you LEARN, the more you EARN:

Have you ever noticed that the word LEARN contains the word EARN? Perhaps that is because the higher level of education you achieve, the higher level of income you are likely to command as well.

Learn how to learn. School teaches you how to gather, learn, and apply knowledge. No matter what career you choose, you will need to learn procedures, information, and skills related to your job, and execute tasks based on that information and training.

Develop interpersonal skills. School allows you to interact with other people and refine your communication skills, including those of persuasion, conflict resolution, and teamwork.

Learn time and task management. Learn how to manage projects, deadlines, and complete assignments efficiently and effectively.

Learn from experience of others. By attending school, you are able to learn from the experience and intellect of thousands of people who have gone before you. In just a few years, through your textbooks, research, and class lessons, school gives you a consolidated overview of theories, formulas, ideologies, and experiments conducted by generations of scientists, philosophers, mathematicians, historians, and other experts. While gaining your own personal work experience is helpful too, a formal education is a way to learn from centuries of others’ life and work and academic experience before you.

 Why is education so important?

Education gives us the knowledge of the world around us. It develops in us a perspective of looking at life. It helps us build opinions and have points of view on everything in life. People debate over the subject of whether education is the only thing that gives knowledge. Some say, education is the process of gaining information about the surrounding world while knowledge is something very different. They are partly right. But the conversion of information to knowledge is possible because of education. Education makes us capable of interpreting rightly the things perceived. Education is not about lessons and poems in textbooks. It is about the lessons of life.

Education is important as it teaches us the right behavior, the good manners thus making us civilized. It teaches us how to lead our lives. Education is the basis of culture and civilization. Education cultivates us into mature individuals, individuals capable of planning for our futures and taking the right decisions. Education arms us with an insight to look at our lives and learn from every experience. The future of a nation is safe in the hands of educated individuals.

Education is important because it equips us with all that is needed to make our dreams come true. Education opens doors of brilliant career opportunities. Schools and colleges define the basic framework of education. Schooling gives us the fundamentals whereas we specialize in fields of our interest, during the degree courses. But education does not end here. It is a lifelong process. Self-learning begins at the point that marks the end of institutional education. The process of self-learning continues…

I do not agree with any of the points made on why the education is so important. Important for whom? The state? Based on whose standards? State’s? UN’s? Who decides what is a good education? Who should decide? Somebody who does not care about child’s dreams? Seriously….

this is your point of view…
Education matters for you as a human being! Education purpose is to develop every individual to their full potential (to develop knowledge, skills, character).

    Please reflect upon this motto:
„Education’s purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open mind”

You didn’t answer my question….Who decides what education means? Who decides the standards of what is a good education? The state? Based on what? Who gives the state the power to force people into institutionalized education?

Who says that self-learning begins at the end on institutional education?

Who has the power to decide how children should be educated? What happens if parent’s standard is different than state’s standard?

As it is now, institutional education is indoctrination, not education.

About the motto: it may be your motto, but it’s not mine. It is not my children’s. I have the right and the responsability to direct my children’s education any way I want, not the way the state wants.

    Dear Cristina,

It is obvious that you have a problem or an obssesion with the state, the official institutions or with the governments in general.
I have never mentioned the state or official institutions in my post. I have only encoureged education in general.
You asked who decides what should be learned. I will tell you: every child will decide that, after he or she will be able to read. It will be his or her decision over what it will be studied.
Unfortunately, not all the parents really know how to educate their children. Most of them have no idea. Because they are not educated.
If you ask me what real education is, I will tell you that this answer is known only by those who have discovered the real meanings of life. You will never find enough education in state or private schools (depending on the level of the school because in those schools where the fee per year is more than 60.000 Euro per child, there is a huge amount of „real education” which unfortunately is not available in every normal/state school).
But with all these, I can assure you that the real educational information are spread all over around us, it was spread by God in each and every aspect of our lives and only those who don’t want to take all these precious information will remain „uneducated” .
If you, as a huma being really want to be educated, you will find around you all the information that exist especially these days (most of them on Internet).
In former times (hundreds years ago, there was no internet but there were a lot of written books, just waiting to be read). If you think a little bit over this matter you will realise that nobody is kept away from learning if he or she really wants that.
It is true that there is also malicious or denaturated or false information but as I said in the beginning, it’s only a matter of choise. It is not easy to be educated. It is not enough education in the school system, but the school nowadays gives you the basics needed to earn more and more education in life.
I know a few children born in extremely bad and poor conditions from parents with no education at all, but some of these small children have only one dream – to learn as much as possible. These children will become the leaders of the next generations.
In brief, the most important thing is to learn how to read, write and calculate simple things, because after this, every individual is able to educate himself on to the highest levels.

There is a saying in debate: he who defines, wins. That is why I wanted to know who defines what education means. In Romania, as well as in Europe, the state defines what education is. The state decides what should be taught in schools. The state gives the „diploma” to all who follwed their standards.

And here lays the problem: i am not willing to yield the definition of „education” to the state. It’s illegal for the government to be involved in education. Education for my kids is what I say it is, not what anybody else say it is.

And because you mentioned God, I have to remind you, that the education of the children is given by God to the parents, not the state.

Yes, I have a problem with the state because it gets its nose in the business that should not be its. It’s the job of the parents, not the governemnt’s, ONU’s, or anybody else’s.

A child 7-18 years old cannot decide what he will study, he will be forced to study what the state tells him to study.

My point: the government should get the hell out of education!
